Is Janice Dickinson telling the truth about her & Bill Cosby?

One after one, many women have stood up against Bill Cosby, accusing him for sexual assault. The latest being former supermodel Janice Dickinson. She spoke exclusively to ET now on this topic.
Let us now analyze her body language and know if she is telling the truth.

1. General body language

She talks a lot with her hands. She uses a lot of illustrators when she is talking about normal things as noticed in other videos of her. Also, her shoulder relaxes when she is talking.

2. Stiff & Control hands

The first thing we noticed about her, when she was talking about the incident is , her hand movements completely stopped. You can also see , she is holding herself, which means , she is controlling herself. She does uses her hands to talk while explaining other events, which signifies, some of the events happened, but not all, as she is saying. Her stiff hands are seen in the sentences or part of sentences are  :
a. After dinner, in my room.....
b. I wasn't wearing my pajamas....
c. I had been sexually assaulted by this man ....
d. I remember a lot of pain....
e. biggest regrets and resentment ....
f. throughout the course of my life....

3. The Turtle

Her shoulders also look very tensed here. We call this pose the turtle. The person tries to acquire as low space as he/she could , which means low confidence. When you see Janice doing this, you know something is fishy and there is more to the story , that we don't know.

4. The distancing language

In speech, people distance themselves from their lie by not using pronouns or people’s names. They don't want to be associated with the lie they just said.
This is exactly what Janice does when she says , " I had been sexually assaulted by THIS man" .

5. The Smile

When the host asks Janice, why didn't she come up when it happened, she answers, "I was embarrassed and ashamed" and gives a smile. We expect anything here but a smile. A sexually assaulted woman , when talking about the event, is more likely to show sadness, anger, hatred even disgust, but not a smile.

6. Shaking head NO

The head shake is another important cue here. She shakes her head NO while mentioning about the incident. When the host asks her, if Bill knew about her being in rehab, she shakes her head as NO but says," He knew damn well, I was in rehab" which is contradicting her head nod.

And when the hosts says, what do you want to tell the other women who have been victimized by Bill Cosby? Janice says," I am here for you ladies" . And again with a head shake of NO which means, she doesn't believe what she is saying.

7. How dare you?

At last being asked by the host again that what will she say to Bill if he's at front now. Janice says How dare you, thrice. and gives a shrug,  which is again signifying she is not angry or sad at all.

Therefore, there's more to know in this story for sure.

Truth is good, Lie is bad, but half truth is worst.

Is Rene trying to woo Upen?

The aggressiveness of Rene is missing from few days. It seems she is trying to get close to Upen.
Let us figure it out, how so?

1. Concealed smile

On the weekend ka vaar ( Sunday, 3rd day for Rene), when Salman says Upen ," Aapne bahut achcha kaam kiya hai". We caught Rene smiling on the statement, glancing down. This smile was more of a pride smile, when we smile for someone we like. The down glance and smile implies hidden liking.

2. Generalisation

Not once, twice but thrice, Rene used generalization statements , when Salman asked her, if Upen was partial or not. We use generalization for a supposed yes/no answer when we don't want to lie. It was evident again that she wants to remain in good books with Upen.

3.  Fake Blushing

When she mentions Upen "was" her crush, she hides herself in cushion, faking that she is blushing. She hides the cushion and quickly removes it. A genuine blush lasts a little longer, because the person takes a little longer to come out the feeling.

4. Try to exchange glance

Rene tries to exchange glance when something funny happens, which is a typical teenager action. Usually teenagers do it, when they have crush upon someone. They try to exchange glance with the person they like .

5. Feet pointing

Out feet are one of the most powerful body parts for Non Verbals. We subconsciously point our feet towards the person whom we like . In the above picture, Rene is talking to Aarya, but her feet is pointing towards Upen, symbolizing while she is in conversation with Aarya , she is still thinking about Upen.

Again look at the direction of her feet. They are pointing towards Upen. She is really into him.

6. Angle of torso

If at all you can't see the pointing of legs, have a look at the torso. The torso, or the upper part of the body will be angled at the person we are interested in.

7. Lending a shoulder of support

This is Rene offering a hug to Upen, after Aarya went on Sunday. She knows Upen & Aarya were good friends and now she is trying to lend her shoulder to Upen.

8. I'll be close

Now this is very interesting, Rene's liking is upto a level, where she can't hide it. She goes wherever Upen goes. She sits wherever Upen sits.

Ohk, so we know, she is behaving like a typical teenager.
This is bit off the topic , but look at Upen's surprise, when he sees Diandra is feeding Gautam.
Ok, moving on.

She comes from a corner of the room, to calm Upen down , when Upen had an arguement with Ali.

The last one is funny. Just have a look at Upen & Rene.

Good or Bad? We don't know...but Upen is not into it yet. We'll know that, because before they speak, their body will.

Stay tuned for more.

Revisiting the Talwars- Aarushi case

There are many cues which one can guess from the Aarushi case. Some said, they are guilty some said they are not. Whatever be the personal opinion, the court has given it's verdict that the Talwar couple is guilty for their daughter Aarushi's murder.

Let us apply the knowledge of Non Verbal Communications and see what is correct and what is not. In an interview aired in 2011, Mr. Saeed Naqvi had an interview with  Talwar couple on Aarushi case.

The interview lasted for 25 mins, but during the 10 mins of the interview many things were visible. So, lets talk about the 10 mins of interview starting from the beginning.

Baselining

Baselining is an important procedure of lie detection ,where we note down the normal body language of a person to compare it with the nervous body language.

So, the baselining says Mr. Talwar is comfortable with cross hands, voice is low pitched and Mrs. Talwar has tilted her head slightly, nods to whatever is being said to acknowledge and has low voice tone.

Cue no. 1-  Convincing not Conveying

Generally a liar has a tendency to convince instead of conveying. We saw this when Mr. Naqvi asks Mr. Talwar, how come you didn't hear any noise? Are you both deep sleeper?  Mrs. Talwar says Probably....kind of....deep sleeper. I don't know , how we didn't hear anything. And then she does a weird nod which is kind of "whatever" nod that we use.
Now, Mr.Talwar also says," It's just that we didn't hear. it's just that we did not hear...." . The statement is more like convincing that they just didn't hear.

Cue no. 2 - Use of Hand gestures

Now, while baselining , we know that Mr. Talwar was sitting with crossed arms, but as soon as Mr. Naqvi tries to dig deeper, he uses his hands while talking. Here we see, slight deflection from the normal body language implying the question is making Mr. Talwar uncomfortable.

Cue no. 3 - Breaking of eye contact

Mrs. Talwar, in her normal body language makes eye contact even if Mr. Talwar speaks, but as soon as he starts talking about the events that happened that night, she breaks the eye contact and looks down. It might also be said, that she is sad, but we will get to that.

Cue no. 4- Nose rubbing & Face touching
As soon as Mr. Talwar explains the events, he rubs his nose and scratches the face. These kind of gestures are called manipulators. People use them when they have to put efforts to say which they don't want to.

Cue no. 5- Lip & Jaw movement

When Mr. Talwar explains the events, very quickly Mrs. Talwar moves the lips and jaw for a second. This is again a sign of impatience , symbolizing she wants to get over with this topic very quickly.
( This was not visible in picture, so we didn't include that)

Cue no. 6- Change in breathing patterns

If you watch the video , you can see the change in breathing patterns also. Mr. Talwar sometimes holds the breath and sometimes take longer breaths. Same goes with Mrs.Talwar. She holds the breath while the discussion goes on.

Cue no. 7- Response latency

Usually ,the response time for a question is anywhere between 2-4 seconds. If you see the delay or quick reply in the pattern , there is something going on, The liar typically takes very short time to respond, as he/she has prepared the lie and wants to get over with it quickly. When Mr.Naqvi asks the couple, what do you think happened? Mrs. Talwar, quickly uses fillers and then says we really don't like to talk about it. Her response time is less than a second, which means she has prepared the answer.

Cue no. 8 - The sigh of relief

Mrs.talwar takes a really long sigh when the topic changes from Aarushi event to their compounder Krishna, implying she is relieved when the topic was switched, again another red flag, that why is she relieved!

Cue no. 9 - Head Nod

Being asked about the argument with the compounder Krishna , Mr. Talwar says issue was some patient's work, but he shakes his head NO,implying subconsciously that whatever he is saying is not true at all. Head shaking adds up to a lot, because when we lie, our brain forgets to control the body movements.

Cue no. 10 - Cross arms

When Mr.Naqvi connects the compunder Krishna to the event , again we see change in the behavior pattern of Mrs. Talwar. She is seen crossed arms, which can mean she is feeling uncomfortable again, or is concealing something.

Cue no. 11-The absence of emotions

The absence of emotions also means something. When someone is talking about their dead child , they are supposed to show sadness, which is totally lacking in both of them. Also, they claimed they are innocent . If at all, they would have been innocent, they would have shown anger on CBI, Police, System etc, which was lacking too.

Therefore , the two prominent emotions Sadness & Anger were missing in the couple.
When we think, we are not speaking, we are letting something out even then. The power of Non Verbals is so much that we hardly have to listen to the person to know the truth .

P.S-  Here is the video of the interview, so that you can see the full video. The analysis is done from 0:00 - 10:00 of the video.

PM Modi's Body Language in G20

This G20 saw many things. Many topics were discussed ,some were very serious ,some were not . Our PM, Mr. Narendra Modi unveiled the Gandhi statue there and also met other Indians . Let us analyse the body language of our PM in G 20.

1. The Handshake

Researchers say, a good handshake is worth 3 hours long face to face conversation. So, if you want to give a good impression , have a good handshake. Handshake was given less importance until recently. Now, it is given a lot of weight, even the position of handshake also matters. There are 9 types of handshake,we will not go into detail of the types.

Let us look at the below picture.

In this picture , we can see what a dominating handshake looks like. The person who approaches with a palm down will automatically gain the upper hand. A person having the upper hand feels powerful.

We generally see, PM Modi giving a subjugating handshake, (which is done by person in white shirt in the above picture )but here we saw him with dominating handshake for few country leaders.

With Canadian President Stephen Harper

With French President Francois Hollande

With Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud
With German Chancellor Angela Merkel

With US President Barack Obama

This kind of handshake shows, PM Modi is very confident and wants to give a signal to other countries that they should not take India lightly. India is to grow very fast and steady. It seems the signal was well perceived.

2. The trick

Brasilian President Dilma Rouseff ,however, gave our PM a double hander( kind of handshake ,where both the hands are used) which is still polite. She knows how to tackle a dominating handshake.

With Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff

Look at how the Brazilian President has clenched PM Modi's hand, implying she is equally powerful.

3. Open Posture

This time we saw another change in PM Modi's body language which is increased use of Illustrators and open postures.

Talking with the hands is the sign of honesty. It's like, our PM is saying " I have nothing to hide". The smile is also genuine as the eyes are contracted and cheek bone area is lifted, meaning, he is very much into the conversation with Putin.

4. Guarded

Our PM knows when to speak and what to speak.  Look at the picture now.

Presence of both US and Russian President is making him a bit uncomfortable as he is playing with his fingers suggesting he is very cautious about the statements he is giving or about to give. When we are uncomfortable or feel vulnerable we close ourselves down. This is already in PM's mind ,that he should not close himself up but he has guarded himself with his arms in front of his chest.

5. Good move

Australian Prime Minister is very particular about his *image ( * I will be posting a whole blog dedicated to him and his image ) . He made sure he gave dominating handshake to every leader that comes on stage while greeting. This usually happens when the person positions himself in the right, then automatically the next person coming from left is going to get a dominating handshake and the other person has no other option but to subjugate.

Australian Prime Minister ,Tony Abbott

As per the plan , the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott offered the handshake, in the picture it looks like a normal handshake, but if you look carefully, you can see the position of President Tony's hand . He is trying to lift his arm, which is like putting effort to twist our PM's hand, to make it a subjugate handshake. Then he quickly comes forward and hugs our PM, put his hand on PM's back. And here's the twist, our PM pats him twice. The pat was so strong that it could be heard clearly in the video. When a handshake ends up in hug, and moreover, a pat in the back , it means, it's not equal. One who pats is the superior . Patting in the back is like treating the other person as a child like, good job son/girl.

Therefore, all efforts of Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott went Null & Void ,when the pat on the back happened.

Captaincy Mere Haath Mein

P3G is broken and it's official now. The competition for the captaincy did it all.

Let us look at the non verbals of the housemates before ,after and during the task .

1. Dimpy
When Dimpy hears that all the housemates have to give a name for the captaincy, she starts playing with her ring, suggesting she is not happy with the idea. These kind of movements are call Manipulators.
If you see this gesture by a person( playing with wedding ring),when you mention their marriage, that means they are going through some problem in their married life.
However, this is not the case here. It is a classic use of manipulator, meaning not liking what is just being said.

2. Praneet
When Upen suggests Praneet's name for captaincy, Praneet starts fondling his beard and the neck area, which means he is calming himself down to not look very happy. This gesture is called "Self Soothing "gesture. We do this gesture, when we are trying to comfort ourselves. ( We could not capture it in lens)

3. Karishma
Karishma is not at all happy with the idea of Gautam's name being suggested.

4. Preetam
While discussing re-election, we can see Preetam with a stance of ownership. This is a very dominating stance and is also very confident, suggesting Preetam is very confident about what he is saying, which was, Gautam wants to be captain.

5. Puneet
When Upen says Puneet, why didn't he give his name for captaincy,Puneet answers, he thought he was not eligible for the captaincy. The catch is, when he says that, he does a one sided shoulder shrug, meaning he doesn't believe that. We see one sided shoulder shrug in case of non surety .
One sided shoulder shrug is hard to catch on picture, therefore, we didn't include it.

6.  Praneet
Praneet just couldn't hide his smile when Diandra recommends Praneet for captaincy. He tries to conceal it, but gives a micro expression of happiness.

7. Diandra
Then it is Diandra who shows hesitation by rubbing her nose while announcing Gautam was supported by majority, for captaincy.

She also gives a "Mouth shrug" when she names Gautam implying deep embarrassment for him.

8. Praneet
When Praneet says Dimpy ," Actual mein ,main captain banna hi nahi chahta". He immediately retreats from his position to little bit back as if he is not the part of the statement he just said.

He also rubs his eyes mentioning, he does not have any interest in captaincy . This behavior is called Eye blocking behavior, where we subconsciously try to shut out eyes on people, or what ever is being said , like they don't want to see the person whom they have just lied,or backing off from the person.

9. Praneet again
Praneet was already angry with Gautam, but the anger suddenly escalates when Gautam measures the trust factor on percentage 100,90,80,70,60,50,40,30,20 to 0.
Look at the disgust on Praneet's face, poor Preetam,he thinks Praneet is cutting joke,

10. Dimpy
Dimpy is happy that they are fighting, we caught just a glimpse of her, trying her best to hide the smile.

11. Preetam
Preetam has been passing comments on women every now and then, however , he pretends to be funny. But the deep hatred for women was obvious when he says out loud to Dimpy, that Dimpy broke their friendship and also some comment about women " Jahan jahan gayi hai, isne gharon ko break kiya hai".
You can look the angry glare and pressed lips of Preetam just before he taunts Dimpy.

On an average 10 mins conversation two people can send out up to 800 non verbal signals to each other. Therefore, every movement of body matters.
There are many more twists and turns to come.
Stay tuned.
